November 2018 marks the Centennial Anniversary of the United States involvement in World War I. To commemorate this anniversary, George Eaton will provide a presentation about the Rock Island Arsenalís contributions to the World War I effort. The talk will cover, items manufactured and new construction on Arsenal Island, the integration of women into the workforce, and the construction of worker housing in the Quad Cities.
George Eaton is Chief of Communications and Engagement and Army Sustainment Command Historian and the Rock Island Arsenal Historian. In his role as Arsenal Historian, he works to tell the local Army story to the community, increase awareness of Rock Island Arsenal history, and develops commemorative events. Prior to being RIA Historian Mr. Eaton also served 21 years on active duty retiring as an Army Lieutenant Colonel. He has served in California, Maryland, Germany, Minnesota, New York, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Republic of Panama, and Rock Island. During his career, George also spent three years teaching military history at the US Military Academy, West Point. George published the book Rock Island Arsenal through Arcadia Publishing in 2014.
